The socio-technical ecological system configures an analytical approach that focuses symmetrical attention on the social, environmental and technological dimensions of the built environment, specifically aiming at the identification of interfaces and their reciprocal relationships. Referring to the city, the social dimensions include socio-political-cultural-economic dynamics, including decision-making actors and their actions. Ecological dimensions include the biophysical elements of non-human nature, with their associated processes, that are part of the urban fabric. Technological dimensions include the built components of urban systems and their associated processes, such as roads or networks, buildings and the knowledge incorporated in technologies (Kim et al. 2020).
